David Gerhard
David Gerhard, 55, of Hedgesville, West Virginia, died on December 12, 2023, after being held at the Arlington County Detention Facility in Virginia since November 20, 2023. Arlington County police said he was found unresponsive in the jail's medical unit, and cardiac arrest was given as the cause, but the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had yet to determine the cause and manner of death, and the death remained under investigation. He was pronounced dead at Virginia Hospital Center. The NAACP Arlington Branch said his death was another in a series at the jail and called for a federal Justice Department investigation.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined. Arlington County police and the sheriff's office say he died of cardiac arrest, and the state medical examiner's autopsy to determine the cause is pending.
