David Drake died on June 13, 2024, while held at the Caddo Correctional Center in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office said he had a preexisting health condition and had been complaining of pain, and that he received medical care at the facility when he asked for it. Early that morning he was being taken to a hospital, and officials could not confirm whether he died during the transport or after he arrived. The sheriff's office said it is awaiting the coroner's report and is working to finish its investigation of the officers on shift.
