David Dodd
David Dodd, 58, of Delano, was held at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, California, when he died on April 5, 2024. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said another person held at the prison attacked him in a yard with a weapon made inside the prison, and that staff used pepper spray to stop the attack. Officials said he was pronounced dead at an onsite medical facility, and the department is treating the death as a homicide. One outlet reported that staff orders to stop were ignored before the pepper spray was used, and that life-saving measures were attempted, while the prison's investigative unit, the Kern County District Attorney's Office and the Kern County Coroner are still examining the cause and manner of death.
