Dave Tolbert was taken from the sheriff's house in Mississippi by a mob in November 1892, according to the Fairhaven Herald. About a week later, his remains were found in a brush heap roughly a mile from the sheriff's house, where his body had not been found when the search began. The paper said it was surmised that he had been lynched.
