Dasie Forbes
Dasie Forbes, 69, was held at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Washtenaw County, Michigan, and had chosen palliative care in February 2026. She was hospitalized on July 11 and died on July 23, 2026. The Michigan Department of Corrections said her death was expected because of multiple chronic, life-limiting illnesses, and it did not open an internal investigation. Accounts differ on the medical examiner's role: one report says the office declined to perform an autopsy, while a later report says an autopsy identified multiple myeloma as the cause of death. Her death was one of several at the prison this year, which advocates say reflects medical neglect and hazardous conditions, and families have demanded answers.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The Michigan Department of Corrections said she died of chronic, life-limiting illnesses, and the Washtenaw County medical examiner's autopsy identified multiple myeloma; advocates say medical neglect at the prison is behind a series of deaths there.
Reported by: Michigan Department of Corrections (the agency that held her); Washtenaw County Medical Examiner (medical examiner or coroner).
