Darren Laney Jr.
Darren Laney Jr., 37, of Big Lake Township, died on March 22, 2024, while held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, Maine. Jail officers found him unresponsive in his cell during morning rounds, and jail medical staff tried unsuccessfully to revive him, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation by the Maine attorney general's office, Portland police, the Maine Department of Corrections and the medical examiner's office.
