Dario Ceragioli
Dario Ceragioli, 62, of Butte Meadows, had multiple sclerosis, and his wife, Elizabeth, described him as a man who loved with his whole heart and was always willing to lend a hand; he left behind his wife and three children. He was held at the Butte County Jail in June 2022. His family says he developed psychosis that they believe came from a suspected MRSA infection, that deputies ignored his complaints of feeling sick, and that he received almost no medical care before he was taken to Oroville Hospital on June 13. He died there on June 16, 2022, of sepsis, according to the family's lawsuit against the Butte County Sheriff's Office and WellPath, the private health provider contracted by the jail, and the sheriff's office has declined to comment because of the litigation.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). His family's lawsuit says deputies ignored his complaints of feeling sick and delayed hospital care until he was on life support, and that he died of sepsis from an infection, likely MRSA.
Reported by: family's lawsuit (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: Dario Ceragioli's family sued the Butte County Sheriff's Office and WellPath over his death at Butte County Jail, and no payment amount has been reported.
