Dante M. Martinez
Dante M. Martinez, 20, of Pittsburg, was seriously injured in a jail pod at the Crawford County Jail on October 16, 2021. Corrections officers responded around 1:15 p.m., and EMS took him to hospitals in Girard and Joplin, Missouri, where he died that evening. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating his death as a homicide, and prosecutors say his injuries came from an assault at the jail. Prosecutors have charged another man with second-degree murder in connection with his death.
