Danny Leroy Hammond
Danny Leroy Hammond, 50, of Aitkin County, died on October 18, 2015, at CentraCare's St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota, where a county deputy was guarding his room. Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigators say he got out of bed early that Sunday morning, struggled with the deputy for his pistol, and shot the deputy, who later died. According to the investigators' account, security staff tased and restrained Hammond, and he went into cardiac arrest, which investigators said was the likely cause. Medical personnel could not save him. Autopsies are planned, and the manner and cause of his death have not yet been determined.
