Daniel Huerta, 17, drowned on December 8, 2011, when the SUV carrying him back to the AMIkids Big Cypress wilderness camp in Collier County, Florida, swerved off the road, hit a traffic sign and plunged into a canal. The driver also drowned. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver was speeding and using a cellphone, and the driver had been ordered to stop driving company vehicles.
Cause of death, as reported: Died in an accident (neglect alleged). The Florida Highway Patrol says the SUV crashed into a canal while the driver was speeding and using a cellphone, and the driver had been ordered away from the wheel of company vehicles.
