Damon Doyle

43 years old · died August 2019 · Broad River Correctional Institution, Columbia, South Carolina

Damon Doyle, 43, was held at Broad River Correctional Institution, a state prison in Columbia, South Carolina, when he was hurt in a fight there in August 2019. The Department of Corrections described it as an altercation between men held at the prison, and said he died at a hospital after being injured on a Monday afternoon. The department and the State Law Enforcement Division investigated the death as a homicide, and reports at the time said it was unclear how many men took part. In a February 2024 report, the Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office said he was stabbed in the back and neck in a dormitory and died after being taken out of the dorm for medical attention. The solicitor's office also said another man held at the prison was convicted of killing him, and that the attack was captured on surveillance video.

Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody. The Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office says a fellow inmate stabbed him in a dorm, and the South Carolina Department of Corrections describes it as an inmate-on-inmate altercation.

Reported by: Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office (outside investigators); South Carolina Department of Corrections (the agency that held him).
