Damir Hill

died December 2019 · Clayton County Jail, Clayton County, Georgia

A newborn son, Damir Hill, died in December 2019, days after he was born at the Clayton County Jail infirmary in Georgia to his mother, Tiana Hill, who was held there. Hill has said in a federal wrongful death lawsuit that she asked to be taken to a hospital and was kept in the infirmary for about 13 hours before giving birth, and that staff repeatedly did not believe she was pregnant. The baby was taken to a hospital neonatal unit and died a few days later, and Hill told a U.S. Senate subcommittee she was able to see him only once. The county has declined to comment on the pending litigation.

Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff. Tiana Hill's federal wrongful death lawsuit says jail staff kept her in the infirmary for about 13 hours and denied her requests to go to a hospital during labor, so her newborn died.

Reported by: Tiana Hill, through a federal wrongful death lawsuit (family or their lawyers).

Lawsuit: Tiana Hill filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit over her newborn's death at the Clayton County Jail in Georgia in 2019, and the claims remain before the federal courts.
