Damian Lopez, 29, was held in the Harris County jail in Houston from December 2021. He was hospitalized in February 2022 with COVID-19, pneumonia and sepsis. His sister, Onisa Lopez, and twin brother, Hugo Lopez, say the family was not told how critically ill he was until March 7, when he was already unconscious on a ventilator, and they say they missed his last conscious moments. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says it tried to reach his family and released him on bond on March 9 while he was still in the hospital, and he died there on March 25, 2022.
