Dalephenia Jones
Dalephenia Jones, 62, was held at Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan. On June 19, officers found her conscious but in need of medical help, and the Michigan Department of Corrections said she was taken to the healthcare area and then by ambulance to Trinity Health Hospital. Hospital staff determined she was having a cardiac event and operated on her, and she died there on July 2, 14 days after being admitted. The department said she had several documented chronic medical conditions and was offered treatment under a chronic care plan, and it says it is investigating the events before she was taken to the hospital. Her death was reported as the fourth at the prison since May, and family and others have cited it as part of a wider pattern of concern about the facility, which the department disputes; the cause of death is pending a medical examiner's determination.
