Dale Stahl

57 years old · died April 7, 2012 · Airway Heights Corrections Center, Spokane County, Washington

Dale Stahl worked as a machinist at Boeing for 17 years until diabetes-related nerve damage forced him to quit. His daughter, Brittany Haun, said they were very close, spending weekends looking at old cars and going to auctions, and that he was a great dad. He was held at the Airway Heights Corrections Center in Washington in April 2012 when he suffered a hypoglycemic episode. His family says corrections officers held him face-down for about 14 minutes, did not call 911 until he went limp, and kept holding him afterward. The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death natural from coronary artery disease with diabetes as a contributing factor, based on information the family says the Department of Corrections provided, and the family disputes that account; a Spokane County jury awarded the family $8 million in 2015.
