Crystal Clark
Her children describe Crystal Clark as their best friend, and say she had turned her life around and had plans for the future. She was held at the Tennessee Prison for Women in Nashville, and her family says she had reported fear of other people held there. After a suspected overdose she was taken to a hospital, where she died four days later in cardiac arrest on July 8, 2018, and the autopsy report attributed her death to acute methamphetamine intoxication. Her children dispute that drugs caused her death in the way prison officials first suggested, and they blame the prison for failing to keep her safe.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (disputed; neglect alleged). The autopsy attributed her death to acute methamphetamine intoxication, but her children dispute the prison's initial account that drugs caused it and say the prison failed to keep her safe after she reported fear of other inmates.
Reported by: autopsy report; Tennessee Department of Correction (the agency that held her); her family.
