Cruz Carbajal
Cruz Carbajal, 41, was remembered by his mother as her savior, and his sister said he did not deserve what happened to him and had suffered a great deal. He died on March 8, 2022, at the Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility in Cañon City, where staff found him on the floor of his cell with injuries that the Colorado Department of Corrections said suggested a serious assault. He was taken to St. Thomas More Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The El Paso County Coroner's Office ruled that his death resulted from strangulation and blunt force trauma. Another man held in the same unit has been charged with murder in connection with his death, and that case was still pending as of April 2025.
