Died in jail or a lockup
Conrad
Conrad, a farmer, was held in the Nelson jail in Nebraska in July 1887. Early in the morning of July 18, an Associated Press dispatch from Omaha reported, a mob took him from the jail and lynched him from a beam of a railroad bridge near town. A separate account put the crowd at about one hundred men and dated the killing to the morning after the one reported. Accounts of the time do not say whether the jail officers resisted the mob or handed him over.
