Executed
Colson
Colson was hanged in the rear prison yard of the Boston jail in early February 1827, though the two newspaper accounts give different dates, 1 and 2 February. The New Hampshire Gazette reports that he made a full confession to a clergyman and others, and that he was anxious to unburden his conscience before he died. Both accounts describe him as humbly penitent and as asking that others take warning from his fate. The Gazette says he was suspended from the gallows for about thirty-five minutes, and that his body was then subjected to a galvanic experiment before an audience.
