Coe
Coe was held in the Omaha county jail when a mob broke in on the night of October 9, 1891. Jailer Horrigan said Coe was still alive when the crowd pulled him out but was trampled and dead before he had gone ten feet. The sheriff was overpowered and held while the mob hanged Coe on the high school grounds. The county had held Coe in its jail, and the jail did not protect him from the mob that took him.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The jailer said a mob broke into the county jail, trampled Coe and dragged him, and hanged him on the high school grounds.
