Clinton Pike
Clinton Pike, 40, was described by his sister, Cara Pike, as a man who had told her while he was held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center that he was ready to clean up his life. He was found injured in his cell on the 12th floor early on April 25, 2025, and died at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center at 3:10 a.m. Jail officials describe his death as a homicide following an altercation with the person held in the same cell, and court records and prosecutors say a cellmate beat him. Investigators said a detention employee failed to respond to calls from another person held nearby reporting sounds of an assault, and the account of how the fight began comes from the cellmate's statements to investigators.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (neglect alleged). Detainee Shanks says he called the jail for help several times before staff arrived about 2 a.m., and investigators say a detention employee failed to respond to calls reporting sounds of an assault and was fired and charged.
Reported by: Oklahoma County Detention Center (the agency that held him); court records and affidavit; Shanks, a fellow detainee (witnesses); prosecutors.
