Clarke Edmundson
Clarke Edmundson, a Black man, was held in the jail in Fayette County, Georgia, in October 1875. Early on Sunday, October 17, according to several newspaper accounts, a mob of two or three hundred people took him from the jail and hanged him on a gallows, the same one where his brother had been hanged a week earlier. The Daily Gazette report and others describe the mob but not any response by jail officers. The accounts say his brother was hanged on the same gallows the week before.
