Executed
Clarence Cox
Clarence Cox was executed by hanging on December 22, 1894, at Maynardville in Union County, Tennessee, in a stockade the sheriff built because state law required executions to be private. The New-York Tribune reported that about four thousand people gathered in town, and that a crowd pushed down the stockade walls during the hanging. According to the article, he died of strangulation within about fifteen minutes, and it says he made a full confession before his death.
