Clarence Carter
Clarence Carter, 49, was executed by lethal injection on April 12, 2011, at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, Ohio. Before the execution he met with imams and laughed with his brother and lawyers, and he apologized to the victim's family; the victim's mother said she had forgiven him. His brother, Lamarck Carter, watched the execution with an attorney, and the two clasped hands afterward. His lawyers argued that the 1988 killing was not premeditated, that he is borderline mentally disabled, that witnesses used against him were unreliable, and that he grew up with a stepfather who beat him when he stuttered. CBS News reported it was the second execution in Ohio using pentobarbital as a stand-alone drug.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. His lawyers argued the killing was not premeditated, that witnesses against him were unreliable, and that he was borderline mentally disabled.
Reported by: State of Ohio (court).
