Cingmars
Charles Cingmars was one of two men held in the Glencoe jail in Minnesota when a masked mob of roughly thirty to one hundred men broke in on the night of Saturday, September 5, 1896. The jailer was overpowered and tied to a chair after first refusing to hand over the keys, and the mob broke the cage locks to take the prisoners out. Cingmars was hanged from a bridge over Buffalo Creek, and his body was taken to the city hall, where an inquest was to be held. One account says he tried to say a few words as he was taken out, and that his mother came to Glencoe after his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A masked mob broke into the Glencoe jail, took Cinqmars from his cell and hanged him from a bridge over Buffalo Creek; the jailer was tied in his chair and the cell locks were broken.
Reported by: Glencoe jailer Edward Waddell (the agency that held him); coroner; newspaper reporting.
