Christopher O'Kroley

died May 2, 2017 · Waupun Correctional Institution, Dodge County, Wisconsin

Christopher O'Kroley died on May 2, 2017, at Waupun Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin, where he was held. The Department of Corrections said it had begun an internal investigation, as it does whenever a person in its custody dies, and had not confirmed a cause of death, and the Dodge County Sheriff's Office was also contacted. Amanda Joers, the mother of his child, said she and her family had grown increasingly concerned about his mental health and had called the prison in April, when they were told he was not at risk to himself. Channel 3000 reported that his death was being treated as a suicide, with his family's account given as the basis for that claim. The family's concerns about his mental health and the call to the prison are their own account and have not been confirmed by the department.

Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). Jane Nosal, the former girlfriend's mother, says he took his own life and that her family called the prison in April about his worsening mental health and was told he was not at risk to himself; the Department of Corrections has not confirmed a cause.

Reported by: Jane Nosal, the former girlfriend's mother (family statement to Channel 3000) (family or their lawyers).
