Christopher Lee Price
Christopher Lee Price, who was 46 according to one report, grew up amid severe abuse and found refuge in art and drawing during high school, according to the Equal Justice Initiative. Alabama executed him by lethal injection on May 30, 2019, at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, and relatives were among the witnesses. Before the execution, he released a statement of apology through his attorney. His lawyers challenged the state's three-drug lethal injection method and asked to die by nitrogen hypoxia instead, but the U.S. Supreme Court declined to halt the execution by a 5-4 vote. The Equal Justice Initiative argued that his trial lawyer failed to present evidence of his childhood abuse to the jury.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. The Equal Justice Initiative says his abusive childhood was not presented to the jury by his trial lawyer, and his lawyers challenged the state's lethal injection method as inhumane.
Reported by: Alabama Department of Corrections (the agency that held him); State of Alabama; Governor Kay Ivey; Equal Justice Initiative (advocates); his family's lawyers (family or their lawyers); U.S. Supreme Court (court).
