Christopher Lee Lucas
Christopher Lee Lucas, 25, was held at the Utah State Prison when he died on September 13, 2014. According to the Utah Department of Corrections, guards saw him and another man in a confrontation inside a cell and used pepper spray on both men. Lucas collapsed while being escorted out of the cell, was taken to a hospital, and later died. The Utah State Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide, citing cardiopulmonary arrest following the physical altercation and pepper spray exposure, and an autopsy suggested the spray may have contributed to his cardiac arrest. In July 2015 the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office said it found the death did not result from unlawful means used by law enforcement.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, citing cardiopulmonary arrest after a fight and pepper spray exposure, and the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office found the death was not the result of unlawful force by law enforcement.
