Christopher Garcia
Christopher Garcia, 30, had been homeless for about a decade and struggled with addiction, his mother said. He was held at the Santa Fe County jail in March 2026 and died there on March 21 of an overdose. Before losing consciousness, he told a nurse that he had taken fentanyl in his cell. The Sheriff's office said welfare checks and medical responses were appropriate, and the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator ruled the death accidental. Investigators could not determine how he obtained the fentanyl.
