Christina Buttery

died December 2022 · Pulaski State Prison, Pulaski County, Georgia

Christina Buttery was held at Pulaski State Prison in Hawkinsville, Georgia, when she died in December 2022. Her father, Stephen Buttery, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he believes she died from a toxic mix of meth and fentanyl. Her mother, Deborah King, said her daughter had dreams. The family says they repeatedly raised concerns about gang violence, extortion and lack of supervision in her dorm before her death. The AJC reported that she was found unresponsive in her bunk around the time of the Christmas program, and that questions remain about how long she lay there and how drugs reached her.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (neglect alleged). Her father, Stephen Buttery, told the AJC she died of a toxic mix of meth and fentanyl, and the family says staff did not supervise her dorm and ignored their earlier concerns about gang violence and extortion.

Reported by: Stephen Buttery, her father (family or their lawyers); Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) (reporters).
