Died in prison

Charlie Glover

74 years old · died July 3, 2023 · Miami-Dade Correctional Institute, Miami-Dade County, Florida

A 74-year-old man with hypertension, identified in a lawsuit only as C.G., died on July 3, 2023 while held at Miami-Dade Correctional Institute, a Florida state prison. People held with him told the Florida Justice Institute attorneys that he was sweating and confused that morning, and he died around 8 a.m. The lawsuit says his dormitory was crowded and had no air conditioning, and the attorneys say heat likely caused his death. The Florida Department of Corrections declined to comment on the pending litigation, and reporting says the autopsy did not name heat as a cause, so the cause of death remains disputed.

Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff. Attorneys for the Florida Justice Institute say the heat in an unairconditioned dorm at Miami-Dade Correctional Institute likely caused his death, and their lawsuit alleges that staff left him in those conditions.

Reported by: Florida Justice Institute attorneys (lawsuit) (family or their lawyers).

Lawsuit: Florida Justice Institute attorneys filed a lawsuit over the death of C.G., a 74-year-old man held at the Miami-Dade Correctional Institute, and no settlement or award amount has been reported.
