Charles Williams
Charles Williams, 30, was a protector who would go out of his way for friends and anyone, his mother said, and she described his large, jovial laugh and his bear hugs. On January 27, 2018, he died after a struggle with Barrow County sheriff's deputies in the sally port of the Barrow County Detention Center in Winder, Georgia. A video released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation shows deputies using stun guns on him and restraining him, and he later went limp before he was pronounced dead at a hospital. His mother believes the force used against him was excessive. The GBI investigation and the autopsy results on the cause and manner of death were still pending when the reports were published.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined. The GBI has not ruled on the cause or manner of death, which await autopsy and investigation, though its released video shows deputies using stun guns on him, and his mother says the force was excessive.
Reported by: Georgia Bureau of Investigation (outside investigators); his mother; news report.
