Charles Shaun Finley
Charles Shaun Finley, 36, was remembered by his niece, Laura Spreacker, and by a former roommate, April Brown, who described him as funny and always smiling. He died in early December 2018 after being taken from the Boyd County Detention Center to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Boyd County coroner said the death was an overdose, believed to involve fentanyl, and an autopsy and toxicology testing were planned, with Kentucky State Police investigating. Authorities believe the fentanyl was brought into the jail by another person held there, a claim that has not been confirmed. Family and community members have asked how the drugs got in and what conditions at the jail allowed it, after a second death there within days.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose
Reported by: Boyd County Coroner Mark Hammond (medical examiner or coroner); Kentucky State Police (outside investigators).
