Charles Mock
Charles Mock, a Black man, was taken from the jail at Swainsboro, Georgia, by a mob in late September 1891 and hanged, according to a news dispatch from Savannah printed in The Morning Call. Another account says the sheriff refused to give up the keys, but the mob forced its way into the jail. The Los Angeles Herald reported that the killing followed an assault a few days earlier, but that accusation is not established here and is not repeated.
