Charles Mealer
Charles Mealer, 47, died on June 22, 2015, while held at the Security Psychiatric Unit of the men's prison in Concord, New Hampshire. A wrongful death lawsuit filed by attorney Larry Vogelman on behalf of his estate says he died by suicide from acute amitriptyline intoxication while on suicide watch, and that the state had a duty to prevent it. The lawsuit also says the medication was not properly supervised, and his twin sister, Renee Mayhew, wrote after his death: "I loved him with all my heart." In 2018 the state settled the case for $75,000 without admitting wrongdoing, and agreed to change how medication is delivered, including having staff watch patients swallow their medicine.
