Died in custody
Charles Marshall
Chas. Marshall was in the custody of the sheriff in Nevada. Early on the morning of December 11, 1880, citizens took Chas. Marshall from that custody and hanged them, according to a brief dispatch printed in the Daily Kennebec Journal two days later. The dispatch's account of why the crowd acted is the only reason it gives, and it is not repeated here. Chas. Marshall's death is recorded as a lynching from the sheriff's custody.
