Charles Malpass, Sr.
Charles Malpass Sr. was held at the jail in Dumas, Arkansas, when a mob took him and hanged him, according to an Associated Press report from Little Rock that said he was hanged to a water tank. A Pine Bluff paper said he was hanged from a beam at the waterworks plant, and it dated his death to Wednesday, September 27, 1911, while an Ocala paper gave Wednesday, October 4. Both papers tie his death to a violent fight at his home or farm in which two of his sons were killed and he was wounded. The Ocala paper also says the sheriff and a deputy sheriff were killed in that fight.
