Charles Gilliland
Charles Gilliland, 64, died on August 31, 2022, while held at the Choctaw County Jail in Hugo, Oklahoma. According to the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, he possibly had a medical emergency and stopped breathing, and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Officials say he had been assaulted by two other people held at the jail on August 18 and taken to hospitals before being returned to the jail, where he was kept alone in an isolated cell. The OSBI is investigating, and the cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, with the effect of the earlier assault on his death not yet determined.
