Charles Francis Boardman, 37, grew up in Alaska and moved to Clayton as a teenager, where he often worked as a drywall installer. His sister remembers him as an outdoors kid who hunted and fished with their dad. He was being held at the Spokane County Jail on May 31, 2023, when he was found unconscious in his cell, and he died at a hospital that evening. His family said they were told he had fallen and hit his head, and the medical examiner's office had not yet responded to a request for information about his death.
