Charles Ewing
Charles Ewing, 66, was held at Trousdale Turner Correctional Center in Tennessee, and his daughter Brandy and son Charlie stayed in touch with him through letters and money. Brandy said he was "not just a number" to his family. He died of pneumonia in June 2024, and his children did not learn of it for nearly six months, when they found it on Tennessee's felony offender registry after he stopped sending his usual birthday card. CoreCivic, which runs the prison, said it could not reach the only emergency contact on file because the phone number was not working. The family says the prison made no other effort to contact them.
