Charles Dixon
Charles Dixon was one of three Black men held in the jail at Charleston, Indiana. On the morning of November 17, 1871, a mob of about forty masked and disguised people took the three men from the jail and hanged them in woods about two miles from town. A coroner's inquest found that they died from violence at the hands of persons unknown. Accounts differ on which tree each man was hanged from.
