Charles Benoit died on March 10, 2008, while held at the Lincoln County Jail in Troy, Missouri, where he had been for about 15 months. A Columbia Missourian report said he suffered seizures for more than 30 minutes before anyone called an ambulance, and that help arrived too late. The interim sheriff said the department would look for ways to improve jail practices.
