Cato Garrett
Cato Garrett was being brought back by train to Vicksburg, Mississippi, in the custody of officers, under the escort of a deputy sheriff, on July 7, 1903. About fifty masked, armed men stopped the train at a small station outside Vicksburg, took him from the deputy and hanged him near the tracks. The Times-Promoter reported that the officer said he could not resist the mob. The Savannah Morning News and the Osceola Times likewise report that the mob took him from the officers and lynched him.
