Carlos Oropeza Canez, 60, was the youngest of 11 children and came from Bakersfield. His family described him as charismatic, and he loved baseball and Soul Train. His wife, Angie Jimenez Canez, wrote that he was the love of her life and would give the shirt off his back for anyone. He died on June 20, 2020, while held at Avenal State Prison, and his death was attributed to coronavirus.
