Carlos Guitterrez
Carlos Guitterrez was taken to the Chatham County jail in November 2025 and placed in a holding cell, then sent by ambulance to Memorial Hospital, where he died on November 25. The sheriff's office says his intake was never completed and that he was not in its custody, while the Savannah Police Department and the sheriff's office dispute which agency held him and his belongings. WJCL reports that the chief deputy asked the GBI to investigate in May 2026, that the GBI declined because of the time that had passed, and that the chief deputy later said he had not made that request. The Chatham County District Attorney has since asked the GBI to review the case, and the autopsy result has not been released.
