Carl George Sullivant
Carl George Sullivant, 46, died on February 15, 2020, after a medical emergency at the Jackson County Jail in Medford, Oregon, and was taken to Rogue Regional Medical Center, where he died. He had told staff he was not feeling well and was moved to an area where medical staff could watch him more closely, according to the sheriff's office. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said a medical condition, which its sheriff described as a stroke, appeared to be the cause and that there was no sign of suicide, while a preliminary account said he tripped in his cell, fell and struck his head. The Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit is reviewing the case and the autopsy results are still pending, so the cause and manner of death have not been determined.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (disputed; neglect alleged). The sheriff's office says Sullivant had a massive stroke, and the medical examiner found the stroke came before a fall that caused a head injury, but the sheriff's office also said he did not fully cooperate with medical staff, while a preliminary account says he tripped, fell and hit his head, and the case is still under review by the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit.
Reported by: Jackson County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held him); Jackson County Sheriff Nathan Sickler (the agency that held him); Captain Josh Aldrich (the agency that held him); medical examiner or coroner.
