Callen Lines

31 years old · died May 12, 2025 · Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility, San Diego County, California

Callen Lines, 31, was a wife, mother of two, daughter and sister, and her father, Dano McCarthy, said he had long feared getting a call that she had died. She died while held at Las Colinas Women's Detention Center in Santee in San Diego County, after she was found in her cell and pronounced dead at a hospital. A postmortem examination reported in the press points to a combination of fentanyl and methamphetamine, and her family's wrongful death lawsuit in federal court attributes her death to that overdose. The lawsuit alleges that deputies ignored her repeated pleas for medical help during withdrawal and seizure symptoms, including intercom calls about seizures and vomiting, and it names the county, deputies and contracted medical companies as defendants. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office has given a different account of her treatment, and her father has asked how and why she was taken from the facility by ambulance.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (disputed; neglect alleged). The family's wrongful death lawsuit says fentanyl and methamphetamine toxicity killed her and that deputies ignored her pleas for medical help, including intercom calls about seizures and vomiting; the sheriff says she refused treatment.

Reported by: family's wrongful death lawsuit (family or their lawyers); postmortem examination; San Diego County Sheriff's Office (the agency that held her).

Lawsuit: Her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in federal court against San Diego County, deputies, medical staff and contracted medical companies.
