15 years old · died May 2, 2007 · Alternative Youth Adventures wilderness program, Montrose County, Colorado

He was placed by Utah juvenile justice services in a wilderness therapy program run by Alternative Youth Adventures near Montrose, Colorado, and died there on May 2, 2007. Colorado authorities said he died of a staphylococcus infection that program staff had seen signs of but did not properly treat, and the company's license has since been suspended. His mother, Dawn Boyd, says he was prone to infections and that Utah bears some responsibility, and she is seeking answers, including his last words.
