Died in jail or a lockup
Caleb Hagood
Caleb Hagood was held in the jail at Winnsboro, in Fairfield County, South Carolina. According to a November 1890 report in the Newberry Herald and News, a mob of angry citizens took him from that jail and killed him near Woodward's store at Rockton, about six years earlier. The jail's role in the taking, whether officers resisted or handed over the keys, is not described in that account.
