Bryan Lopez
Bryan Lopez, 40, was held at the Treasure Coast Forensic Treatment Center in Florida, where police reports and medical examiner intake records list his death in January 2016 as a homicide. According to those records, another patient struck him in the head while he was watching television in a dayroom, and he died of bleeding in the brain the next day, after he was moved to an isolation room. Hospital records give conflicting accounts of when he was found and why 911 was called late. His aunt, Sara Marquez, said he probably would not have died with proper medical care, and his half-brother, Daniel Ferrer, said places like this do not have to be run this way.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (neglect alleged). Police reports say another patient struck him in the head and medical examiner intake records list bleeding in the brain, while his family says he would not have died with proper medical care and that 911 was called late.
